     Robert Innes Grant was born in 1833.1 He was the son of Sir Robert Innes Grant of Dalvey, 9th Bt. and Judith Towers Battelle.2 He died in 1857 at India, killed in action.1
     He fought in the Indian Mutiny.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant and Adjutant in the service of the 1st Sikh Infantry.1

     James Frederick Ferrier was born in 1808.2 He was the son of John Ferrier.2 He married Margaret Wilson, daughter of John Wilson and Jane Penny.2 He died in 1864.2
     He was Professor of Moral Philosophy and Political Economy at St. Andrew's University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.1

     Susan Ferrier was the daughter of James Frederick Ferrier and Margaret Wilson.2,3 She married Sir Alexander Grant of Dalvey, 10th Bt., son of Sir Robert Innes Grant of Dalvey, 9th Bt. and Judith Towers Battelle, on 2 June 1859.1 She died on 20 March 1895.1
      From 2 June 1859, her married name became Grant.
