     John Slade was born on 10 May 1720.2,3 He was the son of Henry Slade and Mary Case.4 He was baptised on 9 October 1720 at Burstock, Dorset, EnglandG.3 He married Charlotte Portal, daughter of Henry Portal and Dorothy Hasker, on 16 August 1755 at St. Mary Le Strand, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1,2,3 He died on 27 August 1801 at age 81.1,3
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Somerset.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Somerset.1 He was Commissioner of the Victualling Board between 1777 and 1790.1,3 He lived at Maunsell House, Somerset, EnglandG.1

     Charlotte Portal was the daughter of Henry Portal and Dorothy Hasker.2,3 She married John Slade, son of Henry Slade and Mary Case, on 16 August 1755 at St. Mary Le Strand, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1,4,3 She died on 25 October 1815.3 She was also reported to have died in 1801.1 Her will was proven (by probate) on 18 November 1815.3
     From 16 August 1755, her married name became Slade.2 Her last will was dated 22 February 1815.3

John Henry Slade was born on 8 July 1796.1 He was the son of General Sir John Slade, 1st Bt. and Anna Eliza Dawson.2 He married Eleanor Frances McVeagh, daughter of Henry Chapman McVeagh and Mary Uniacke, in February 1837 at Church of St. Mary and the Holy Cross, Milsead, Kent, England.1,3 He died on 30 August 1843 at age 47 at Barnes, Surrey, EnglandG.1,4
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 25 February 1813 in the 1st Royal Dragoon Guards.4 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 6 April 1815 in the 12th Light Dragoons (Lancers.)4 He fought in the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815.4 He gained the rank of Captain on 25 February 1822 in the 2nd Ceylon Regiment.4 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Dragoon Guards.1

     Eleanor Frances McVeagh was born in 1819 at Chester, Cheshire, England.3 She was the daughter of Henry Chapman McVeagh and Mary Uniacke.1,3 She married, firstly, Lt.-Col. John Henry Slade, son of General Sir John Slade, 1st Bt. and Anna Eliza Dawson, in February 1837 at Church of St. Mary and the Holy Cross, Milsead, Kent, England.1,3 She married, secondly, Rear-Admiral Aylmer Paynter, son of David Runwa Paynter and Sophia Catherine Price, on 25 April 1848 at Walcot Church, Bath, Somerset, EnglandG.1,2 She died in 1901 at Bath, Somerset, England.3
     Eleanor Frances McVeagh also went by the nick-name of Fanny.2 From February 1837, her married name became Slade. From 25 April 1848, her married name became Paynter.1
