     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy.1 He lived at the Isle of Muck, Argyllshire, ScotlandG.1

     He fought in the First World War.2 He fought in the officer, Royal Flying Corps.2 He was injured in a flying accident, and had extensive plastic surgery to his face by Sir Gillies.2 He gained the rank of Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force.1

     Rear-Admiral Alan Ramsay Dewar was born on 8 February 1887.1 He was the son of James Dewar and Jane Flora Wotherspoon.2 He married Euphemia Valentine Graham Ford, daughter of James Johnston Ford, on 18 October 1923.1 He died on 5 November 1972 at age 85.1
     He was educated at H.M.S. Britannia, EnglandG.1 He was commissioned in 1901, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in 1915.1 He gained the rank of Commander in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1926.1 He was commander of the 1st Destroyer Flotilla between 1929 and 1931.1 He was Naval Attaché to Washington between 1933 and 1935.1 He was ofificer-in-charge of the H.M.S. Nelson between 1935 and 1937.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1938.1 He was Head of Salvage Department, Admiralty.1 He lived at Glebe Cottage, Guilane, East Lothian, ScotlandG.1
