     Colonel Bernard Rowland Ward was born on 16 January 1863.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Bernard Edward Ward and Gertrude Maria Chesterfield.1 He married, firstly, Jeanie Duffield, daughter of John Milner Duffield, on 5 December 1891.1 He married, secondly, Amy Margaret Nelson, daughter of Arthur Nelson, on 6 November 1926.1 He died on 30 April 1933 at age 70.1
     He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Royal Engineers.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1917.1
