     Lt.-Col. Sir Robert Edmund Martin was born on 1 December 1874.2 He was the son of Robert Frewen Martin and Henrietta Larken.2 He married Hon. Ethel Laura Brooks, daughter of William Brooks, 2nd Baron Crawshaw of Crawshaw and Mary Ethel Hicks-Beach, on 19 November 1925.1 He died on 13 June 1961 at age 86.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1896 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1899 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1916.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)2 He was appointed Knight Bachelor (K.B.) in 1939.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Leicestershire Regiment (Territorial Forces.)2 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire in 1949.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Leicestershire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Leicestershire.2 He lived at The Brand, Loughborough, Leicestershire, EnglandG.1
