Sir Francis Wood, 1st Bt. was baptised on 2 January 1729.1 He was the son of Francis Wood and Mary Dorothy Palmer.1 He married Elizabeth Ewer, daughter of Anthony Ewer, on 5 June 1779.1 He died on 1 July 1795 at age 66, without issue.1 He was also reported to have died on 9 July 1795.1
He was created 1st Baronet Wood, of Barnsley, co. Yorks [Great Britain] on 22 January 1784, with a special remainder to his father's issue.1
