Alexander Forbes, 1st Lord Forbes of Pitsligo1

M, #285, d. 26 October 1636
Last Edited=6 Apr 2011
Alexander Forbes, 1st Lord Forbes of Pitsligo was the son of Sir John Forbes, 8th of Pitsligo and Christian Ogilvy.2 He married Jean Keith, daughter of William Keith, 5th Earl Marischal. He married Lady Jean Keith, daughter of William Keith, 6th Earl Marischal.2 He died on 26 October 1636.2
He was created 1st Lord Forbes of Pitsligo [Scotland] on 24 June 1633, with a special remainder to his heirs male whatsoever bearing the name of Forbes.1 Modern legal opinion is that, although the Forbes of Newe Baronets are undoubtedly heirs male of this peerage, the heir by this destination is Lord Clinton as heir of line of Mary, sister of the 4th Lord Forbes of Pitsligo. It is also considered that the attainer is not effective against the substitute heirs.2
