Lt.-Col. Sir Arthur D'Arcy Gordon Bannerman of Elsick, 12th Bt. was born on 20 February 1866.1 He was the son of Colonel Patrick Wilson Bannerman and Flora Lindsay Vanrenen.1 He married, firstly, Virginia Emilie Bedford, daughter of William J. Guthrie Bedford, on 7 June 1889.1 He married, secondly, Philippa Baumgartner, daughter of Edward Jocelyn Baumgartner, in November 1918.1 He died on 27 April 1955 at age 89.1
Lt.-Col. Sir Arthur D'Arcy Gordon Bannerman of Elsick, 12th Bt. was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Indian Army.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1903.1 He held the office of Resident of Kashmir between 1917 and 1921.1 He was Political Aide-de-Camp to the Secretary of State for India between 1921 and 1928.1 He held the office of Gentleman Usher in 1928, to King George V.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1928.1 He succeeded to the title of 12th Baronet Bannerman, of Elsick, co. Kincardine [N.S., 1682] on 10 March 1934.1 He held the office of Extra Gentleman Usher in 1936, to King Edward VIII.1 He held the office of Extra Gentleman Usher between 1937 and 1952, to King George VI.1 He held the office of Extra Gentleman Usher between 1952 and 1955, to Queen Elizabeth II.1

Colonel Patrick Wilson Bannerman was born on 23 December 1833.1 He was the son of Patrick Wilson Bannerman and Anna Johnston.1 He married Flora Lindsay Vanrenen, daughter of Maj.-Gen. T. A. Vanrenen, on 20 May 1859.1 He died on 1 December 1912 at age 78.1
