     Sarah Gaskell was the daughter of Nathaniel Gaskell.1 She married Brig.-Gen. Hugh Sempill, 12th Lord Sempill, son of Francis Abercromby, Lord Glasford and Anne Sempill, Lady Sempill, on 13 May 1718.1 She died on 17 April 1749.1
     From 13 May 1718, her married name became Sempill.1

     Brig.-Gen. Hugh Sempill, 12th Lord Sempill was born after 16 May 1688.2 He was the son of Francis Abercromby, Lord Glasford and Anne Sempill, Lady Sempill.1 He married Sarah Gaskell, daughter of Nathaniel Gaskell, on 13 May 1718.1 He died on 25 November 1746.1
     He gained the rank of Adjutant in 1708 in the 26th Foot (Cameronians.)2 He fought in the Battle of Malplaquet in 1709.3 He gained the rank of Ensign in 1709.3 He gained the rank of Captain in 1712.3 He held the office of Burgess of Glasgow in 1714.3 He sold the Eliotstoun and Sempill estates in 1727.2 He succeeded as the 12th Lord Sempill [S., 1488] on 17 February 1727.2 He gained the rank of Lietuenant-Colonel in 1731 in the 19th Foot.3 He held the office of Burgess of Edinburgh in 1739.3 He purchased North Barr estate in 1741.2 He gained the rank of Colonel between 1741 and 1745 in the 43rd Highlanders.3 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1745.3 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1745 in the 25th Foot.3 He fought in the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745.3 He held the office of Governor of Barbados in 1746, although he did not take up the post.3 He fought in the Battle of Culloden on 16 April 1746.3

     Anne Sempill, Lady Sempill was the daughter of Robert Sempill, 7th Lord Sempill and Anne Douglas.1,2 A contract for the marriage of Anne Sempill, Lady Sempill and Francis Abercromby, Lord Glasford was signed on 6 August 1675.3 She died in 1695.1
     From 6 August 1675, her married name became Abercromby.4 She succeeded as the 9th Lady Sempill [S., 1488] on 4 April 1684.3 On 16 May 1688 she obtained a regrant of the title with remainder to (a) heirs male of her and her husband's bodies, (b) heirs female ditto, (c) heirs male then female of her body by any other husband and (d) anybody chosen by her and her husband and finally to heirs and asigns whatsoever.3

     Robert Sempill, 7th Lord Sempill was born after 1622.1 He was the son of Hugh Sempill, 5th Lord Sempill and Lady Elizabeth Hay.1 He married Anne Douglas, daughter of Sir James Douglas, 1st Lord Mordington and Anne Oliphant, after 8 February 1647/48.2 He died on 8 September 1675.2 He was also reported to have died in January 1674/75.1
     He succeeded as the 7th Lord Sempill [S., 1488] on 3 November 1644.3 He was Commissioner of War for Renfrewshire in 1648.2 On 25 July 1685 his lands and title were entailed on his elder daughter in default of heirs male of his body.2

     John Sempill, 11th Lord Sempill was born between 1685 and 1688.2 He was the son of Francis Abercromby, Lord Glasford and Anne Sempill, Lady Sempill.1 He died on 17 February 1727, unmarried.1
     In 1715 he opposed the Jacobites.3 He succeeded as the 11th Lord Sempill [S., 1488] on 4 August 1716.3 He held the office of Burgess of Glasgow in 1721.2
