Sir Hugh Houston Smiley, 1st Bt. was born on 5 January 1841.1 He was the son of John Smiley and Ann Reid.2 He married Elizabeth Anne Kerr, daughter of Peter Kerr, on 9 September 1874.1 He died on 3 March 1909 at age 68.3
