     Ian Pountney Coats was born on 12 January 1901.¹ He is the son of Ernest Symington Coats and Nora Pountney.² He married Hilda May Latta, daughter of James Gilmour Latta, on 11 January 1927.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.¹ He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in 1945 in the 2nd Battalion, Renfrewshire Army Cadet Force.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Renfrewshire in 1945.¹

     James Gilmour Latta lived at Auchenfail, Ayrshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Hilda May Latta is the daughter of James Gilmour Latta.² She married Ian Pountney Coats, son of Ernest Symington Coats and Nora Pountney, on 11 January 1927.¹
