Francis Sandford, 1st and last Baron Sandford was born on 14 May 1824.1 He was the son of Sir Daniel Keyte Sandford and Cecilia Catherine Charnock.1 He married Margaret Buchanan Finlay, daughter of Robert Finlay, 2nd of Boturich, on 1 August 1849.1 He died on 31 December 1893 at age 69, without issue.1
He held the office of Assistant Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies.1 He was Secretary for the Education Department of England in 1870.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1 He was created 1st Baron Sandford, of Sandford, co. Salop. [U.K.] on 1 January 1891.1 On his death, his title became extinct.1
