Colonel Hon. Sir James Carmichael1

     Colonel Hon. Sir James Carmichael was the son of Sir James Carmichael, 1st Lord Carmichael and Agnes Wilkie.1 He married Margaret Grierson, daughter of Sir John Grierson of Lag.1 He died before 4 November 1681.1
     He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royalist Army.1 He was appointed Knight on 2 July 1632 at Oatlands, Surrey, EnglandG.2 He fought in the Battle of Dunbar in 1650.1 He styled himself as 1st Baronet Carmichael, of Bonnington, co. Lanark [Nova Scotia] circa 1676, after he purchased a blank warrant for a Baronetcy for £100, although there is no record of it in the Great Seal or elsewhere.2 He lived at Bonningtoun, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1
