     Charles Mathewes Bruce was born on 14 December 1875.¹ He was the son of Colonel Elliott Armstrong Bruce and Mary Rebecca Dawson.¹ He married Emily Violet Taylor, daughter of George Taylor, on 20 February 1929.¹ He died on 22 September 1940 at age 64.¹
     He graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was Principal Assistant to the Secretary of the Admiralty.¹ He was Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.¹ He was Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1933.¹

     Emily Violet Taylor is the daughter of George Taylor.¹ She married Charles Mathewes Bruce, son of Colonel Elliott Armstrong Bruce and Mary Rebecca Dawson, on 20 February 1929.¹
     From 20 February 1929, her married name became Bruce.

     Mary Anne Sophia Bruce is the daughter of Colonel Elliott Armstrong Bruce and Mary Rebecca Dawson.¹ She married William E. Fenton-Wingate on 20 September 1900.¹
