     Major John Elliott Lidderdale Bruce was born on 10 January 1870.1 He was the son of Colonel Elliott Armstrong Bruce and Mary Rebecca Dawson.1 He married Charlotte Mabel Johnstone, daughter of T. J. G. Johnstone, on 12 September 1900.1
     Major John Elliott Lidderdale Bruce gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Artillery.1 He was commanding officer of the 26th Jacob’s Mountain Battalion.1
