     William Duff, 1st of Muirtown was born in 1707.2 He was the son of Alexander Duff, 3rd of Drummuir and Catharine Duff.2 He married Mary Baillie.2 He died in 1782.2
     He purchased Muirtown in 1741 at Muirtown, Inverness-shire, Scotland.1

     Alexander Duff, 2nd of Muirtown was born in 1737 at Banffshire, ScotlandG.1 He was the son of William Duff, 1st of Muirtown and Mary Baillie.1 He married Christian Baillie, daughter of Hugh Baillie, 3rd of Dochfour and Emilia Fraser, on 24 April 1769.1 He died in 1778.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Battalion, 73rd Regiment.2

     Christian Baillie was the daughter of Hugh Baillie, 3rd of Dochfour and Emilia Fraser.2 She married Alexander Duff, 2nd of Muirtown, son of William Duff, 1st of Muirtown and Mary Baillie, on 24 April 1769.1 She died on 19 December 1776.1
     From 24 April 1769, her married name became Duff.1
