     Sir Herbert de Maxwell of Carlavenock was the son of Sir Robert de Maxwell.¹ He married Katherine Stewart, daughter of John Stewart of Dalswinton, before 10 August 1386.¹ He died before 16 October 1421.¹
     He held the office of Hereditary Steward of Annandale on 8 February 1409/10.²
