     Nigel Desmond Norman was born on 13 August 1929.1 He was the son of A/Cdre. Sir Henry Nigel St. Valery Norman, 2nd Bt. and Patricia Moyra Annesley.1 He married, firstly, Barbara Anne Elliot, daughter of Captain Mark Fogg Elliot, on 28 April 1956.1 He and Barbara Anne Elliot were divorced in 1965.1 He married, secondly, Boel Elisabeth Suenson, daughter of Gösta Suenson, on 3 April 1965.1 He died on 13 November 2002 at age 73.1
      Nigel Desmond Norman usually went by his middle name of Desmond.1 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Pilot Officer in 1949 in the service of the Royal Air Force.1 He gained the rank of Pilot Officer between 1952 and 1957 in the service of the Royal Australian Air Force.1 He was director of Britten-Norman Ltd in 1954.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Aeronautical Society (F.R.Ae.S.).1 He was director of Crop Culture (Aerial) Ltd in 1956.1 He was registered as a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.).1 He was an aircraft designer (including the Islander, known as the Land Rover of the skies due to its robustness).1 He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1971.1
