     Friedrich Wilhelm I Kurfürst von Hessen-Kassel was born on 20 August 1802 at Philippsruhe, Germany.3 He was the son of Wilhelm II Kurfürst von Hessen-Kassel and Friederike Christine Auguste Prinzessin von Preußen.1 He married Getrud Prinzessin von Hanau und Horowitz, daughter of Gottfried von Falkenstein and Maria Magdelena Schultz, on 26 June 1831 at Rellingshausen, Germany.3 He died on 6 January 1875 at age 72 at Prague, Czech Republic.4,5
     He succeeded to the title of Kurfürst von Hessen-Kassel in 1831.1 He abdicated as Elector of Hesse-Cassel in 1866.6
