He married Irene Gräfin zu Solms-Laubach, daughter of Georg Friedrich Graf zu Solms-Laubach and Johanna Marie Gräfin zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich, on 17 October 1946. He died on 16 November 2007 at age 91.2
     He gained the title of 4th Fürst zu Castell-Rüdenhausen.1
