     John David Gwynn was born on 13 July 1907.1 He is the son of Edward John Gwynn and Olive Mary Ponsonby.2 He married, firstly, Grace Lawless Lee on 8 February 1934.1 He married, secondly, Esther Alice Hulbert on 10 September 1969.1
     John David Gwynn usually went by his middle name of David.2 He was educated at St Columba's College, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He was with Siemens Bau Union in 1928, he worked on the Shannon hydro-electric development.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1930 with a Baccalarius in Arte Ingeniara (Bachelor of Engineering) (B.A.I.), he received Alexander and Geology Prizes.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was with Mott, Hay & Anderson between 1930 and 1932.1 He was a chartered engineer.1 He was appointed Fellow, Institution of Civil Engineers (F.I.C.E.)1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (M.I.Mech.E.)1 He was an engineer for the London Underground railways between 1933 and 1934.1 He was with J. D. & D.M. Watson between 1934 and 1935, consulting engineers.1 He was an engineer for the London Underground railways between 1936 and 1939.1 He was with Balfour, Beatty & Company Limited between 1936 and 1972.1 He was an engineer for a hydro-electric development between 1940 and 1942 at Scotland.1 He was involved in blocking eastern entrances to the Scapa Flow, and other works in Orkney between 1942 and 1944 at Scotland.1 He was an engineer for a hydro-electric development between 1949 and 1950 at Scotland.1 He was chief engineer for Balfour, Beatty & Company Limited between 1951 and 1972.1 He was director of Balfour, Beatty & Company Limited between 1963 and 1968.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1966 with a Magister in Arte Ingeniara (Master of Engineering) (M.A.I.)1 He was director of Balfour, Beatty & Company Limited's subsidiary company Engineering & Power Development consultants between 1967 and 1972.1 He was involved in the design of many hydro-electric and other industrial power developments world-wide.1 He wrote the book Paper Presented to World Energy Conference (Moscow), with Wilson and Braikevich.1
