Joseph Sutherland Matterson was born in September 1874 at County Limerick, Ireland.1 He is the son of Joseph Matterson and Agnes Sutherland.2,1 He married, firstly, Frances Anna Cooper-Chadwick, daughter of Richard Austin Cooper-Chadwick and Charlotte Sophia Bourchier, on 12 April 1898.3 He married, secondly, Maud Lilian Collier-Wright, daughter of John Robert Wright and Mary Anne Elizabeth Collier, on 19 October 1920 at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.1 He and Maud Lilian Collier-Wright were divorced.1 He married, thirdly, Matilda Marie Justin Symes, daughter of James Symes, on 5 April 1932 at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.1 He died on 25 March 1950 at age 75 at Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.1
