Caroline Barton was the daughter of John Watson Barton.2 She married William Clayton Browne-Clayton, son of Robert Clayton Browne and Harriette Augusta Hamilton, on 10 January 1867.1 She died on 24 September 1916.1

Brig.-Gen. Robert Clayton Browne-Clayton was born on 24 February 1870.2 He was the son of William Clayton Browne-Clayton and Caroline Barton.2 He married Mary Magdalene Wienholt, daughter of Edward Wienholt, on 16 November 1905.2 He died on 3 March 1939 at age 69.2
He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was commissioned in 1890, in the service of the 5th Lancers.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902.2 He lived Brevet Major.2 He retired from the military in 1909.2 He gained the rank of Major in the South Irish Horse (Special Reserve.)2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.2 He gained the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel.2 He was awarded the Order of the White Eagle of Serbia 3rd class, with crossed swords.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)2 He gained the rank of Honorary Brigadier-General.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Carlow.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Carlow.2 He lived at Browne's Hill, County Carlow, IrelandG.2
