Major John Pitcairn1

     Major John Pitcairn was born in 1722 at Dysart, Fife, ScotlandG.2 He was the son of Reverend David Pitcairn and Catherine Hamilton of Wishaw.3 He was baptised on 28 December 1722 at St. Serf's Church, Dysart, Fife, ScotlandG.4 He married Elizabeth Dalrymple, daughter of Robert Dalrymple.1 He died on 17 June 1775, killed in action.1
     He was commissioned in 1746 with the rank of Lieutenant, in the service of the Royal Marines.2 He fought in the French and Canadian Wars.2 He gained the rank of Major in 1771 in the Royal Marines.2 He fought in the Battle of Lexington on 19 April 1775.2 He fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 June 1775.1

     Jean Ruthven, Lady Ruthven of Freeland was the son of Thomas Ruthven, 1st Lord Ruthven of Freeland and Isabel Balfour.2 He died in April 1722, unmarried.1
     Her right to the peerage was unchallenged in her lifetime.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lady Ruthven of Freeland [S., 1651] in April 1701.1 On 4 January 1703 she was executor to her brother and made out her title to the estates.1

     Mary Elizabeth Thornton Ruthven, Lady Ruthven of Freeland was born circa 1784.1 She was the daughter of James Ruthven, 6th Lord Ruthven of Freeland and Lady Mary Elizabeth Leslie.2 She married Walter Hore-Ruthven, son of William Hore and Eleanor Catherine Bradstreet, on 13 October 1806.1 She died on 13 February 1864.1
     From 13 October 1806, her married name became Hore. From 1853, her married name became Hore-Ruthven. She succeeded as the 8th Lady Ruthven of Freeland [S., 1651] on 27 July 1853.1
