     John Wither Awdry was born on 21 October 1795.2 He married, firstly, Sarah Maria Awdry, daughter of Reverend Jeremiah Awdry, on 29 June 1830.2 He married, secondly, Frances Ellen Carr, daughter of Rt. Rev. Thomas Carr, on 28 July 1839.2 He died on 31 May 1878 at age 82.2
     John Wither Awdry held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1 He lived at Notton House, Wiltshire, England.1
