     Edward Robert Portal was born on 22 April 1854.1 He was the son of William Thomas Portal and Betsey Attenborough. He married, firstly, Rose Leslie Napier, daughter of John Moore Napier and Elizabetha Amelia Henrietta Alexander, on 17 January 1878.2 He married, secondly, Ellinor Kate Hill, daughter of Captain Charles West Hill, on 10 August 1892.2 He died on 26 March 1953 at age 98.2
     He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1880 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Berkshire Imperial Yeomanry.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)3 He lived at Eddington House, Hungerford, Berkshire, England.3 He lived at Sulham House, Pangbourne, Berkshire, EnglandG.2

     William Thomas Portal was born on 25 October 1816.1 He was the son of Richard Brinsley Portal and Mary Woolston.2 He married, firstly, Betsey Attenborough, daughter of George Attenborough, on 9 August 1849.1 He married, secondly, Frances Marshall, daughter of John Marshall, on 26 August 1860.3 He died on 12 October 1889 at age 72.3
     He lived at Springfield, Northamptonshire, EnglandG.1

     Ellinor Kate Hill was the daughter of Captain Charles West Hill.1 She married Edward Robert Portal, son of William Thomas Portal and Betsey Attenborough, on 10 August 1892.1 She died on 25 November 1946.2
     From 10 August 1892, her married name became Portal.2
