Edward Francis John Preston was born on 3 March 1845 at Ireland.1,2 He was the son of Edward Anthony John Preston, 13th Viscount Gormanston and Lucretia Jerningham.1 He married Anne Genevieve Grimshawe, daughter of Samuel Dominic Grimshawe and Jessie Mary Magdalen Hunter, on 21 January 1891 at The Oratory, South Kensington, London, England.1,2 He died on 1 March 1901 at age 55.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Lancashire Hussars (Yeomanry).1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 9th Lancers.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Dublin.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Meath.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Meath.1
