     She was with the Volunteary Aid Detachment during the Second World War.1 From 11 April 1942, her married name became Parish.1

     Sir Richard Mathias, 1st Bt. was born on 1 June 1863.1 He was the son of John Mathias and Jane Davies.1 He married Annie Hughes, daughter of Evan Hughes, on 18 July 1899.1 He died on 26 October 1942 at age 79.1
     He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1896 entitled to practise as a barrister-at-law.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Monmouthshire.1 He was founder of the Cambrian Steam Navigation Company.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cheltenham between 1910 and 1911.1 He was appointed Knight on 1 January 1913.1 He was created 1st Baronet Mathias, of Vaendre Hall, St. Mellons, co. Monmouth [U.K.] on 28 June 1917.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1923.1
