     He gained the rank of Captain in the Liverpool Scottish Regiment.1 He fought in the Second World War.1

     Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley was born on 19 June 1876.1 He was the son of Reverend Nigel Gresley and Joanna Beatrice Wilson.1 He married Ethel Frances Fullager, daughter of W. P. Fullager, on 17 October 1901.1 He died on 5 April 1941 at age 64.1
     He was registered as a Member, Institution of Electrical Engineers (M.I.E.E.)1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Civil Engineers (M.I.C.E.)1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (M.I.Mech.E.)1 He was Chief Mechanical Engineer, LNER.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Engineering and Railway Staff Corps, Royal Engineers.1
