     Major Harold Douglas Barnes was born in 1876 at London, England.1 He was the son of Edmond Barnes.1 He married Marienne Freestone.1
     He was a solicitor with Barnes and Butler, Solicitors in 1901.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 7th Battalion, London Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War in 1915, where he was severely wounded.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He was with the Judge-Advicate-General's Office in November 1916.1 He was with the Staff, War office in February 1917.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was Deputy Assistant Adjutant General in January 1919.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.)1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1
