     Charles Gilbert Blane was baptised on 5 December 1837 at Great Hadham, Hertfordshire, England.1 He was the son of Sir Hugh Seymour Blane, 2nd Bt. and Eliza Armit.1 He died on 4 April 1874 at age 36 at Mickleover, Derbyshire, England.1
     He fought in the Crimean War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 23rd Welsh Fusiliers.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny between 1857 and 1858.1
