     Lt.-Gen. Henry Shrapnel was born on 3 June 1761.1 He was the son of Zachariah Shrapnel and Lydia Needham.1 He married Esther Squires on 5 May 1810 at St. Mary's Church, Lambeth, London, England.1 He died on 13 March 1842 at age 80 at Peartree House, Southampton, Hampshire, England.1
     He was inventor of the Shrapnel shell.1

     Captain Henry Needham Scrope Shrapnel was born on 26 July 1812.1 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Henry Shrapnel and Esther Squires.1 He married Louisa Sarah Jonsiffe on 19 August 1835 at St. Mary's Church, Dover, Kent, England.1 He died on 1 June 1896 at age 83.1
     He was educated at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 3rd Dragoon Guards.1
