Antony Schomberg Byng was born on 31 March 1876.1 He was the son of Reverend Francis Edmund Cecil Byng, 5th Earl of Strafford and Emily Georgina Kerr.1 He married Lucy Margaret Greenly, daughter of Edward Howorth Greenly and Sarah Caroline Forster, on 2 July 1902.1 He died on 8 April 1934 at age 58.1
     He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force.1
