     Josef von Sachsen-Hildburghausen was born on 5 October 1702. He was the son of Ernst Herzog von Sachsen-Hildburghausen and Sophie Henriette von Waldeck. He married Anne Victoria della Sardegna-Soissons, daughter of Luigi Tomas della Sardegna-Soissons, Principe della Sardegna-Soissons and Uraine de la Cropte, on 17 April 1738 at Paris, France. He and Anne Victoria della Sardegna-Soissons were divorced in 1752. He died on 4 January 1787 at age 84.
     Josef von Sachsen-Hildburghausen was a member of the House of Wettin.
