     Bromley David Smith-Dorrien was born on 29 October 1911.1 He was the son of General Sir Horace Lockwood Smith-Dorrien and Olive Crofton Schneider.1 He died in February 2001 at age 89 at Kensington, London, England.2
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Sherwood Foresters.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he became a POW in 1942.1
