     Sir Robert Sinclair of Longformacus, 1st Bt. was the son of James Sinclair, 11th of Longformacus and Helen Hepburn.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of Sir Robert Douglas of Blackerstone and Elizabeth Douglas of Ivile.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Alexander, daughter of William Alexander, Viscount Canada and Lady Margaret Douglas, in 1672.1,2 He died in 1678.1
     He was a practising Advocate on 9 July 1647.1,2 He was created 1st Baronet Sinclair, of Longformacus, co. Berwick [Nova Scotia] on 10 December 1664, with remainder to his heirs male whatsoever.1 He obtaiend the creation of Longformacus into a free barony.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Berwickshire [Scotland] between 1665 and 1667.2 He purchased Barony of Lochend, co. Haddington, lands at Ellem, and Hairhead, co. Berwick.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Berwickshire [Scotland] between 1669 and 1674.2
