     Hon. Sir Bede Edmund Hugh Clifford was born in 1890.2 He was the son of William Hugh Clifford, 10th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh and Catherine Mary Bassett.3 He married Alice Devin Gundry, daughter of John Murton Gundry, on 21 October 1925.2 He died on 6 October 1969.2
     He fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Fusiliers.2 He was Private Secretary to the Governor-General of Australia between 1918 and 1920.2 He was invested as a Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1920 4th Class.2 He was Secretary to the Governor-General of South Africa (HRH Prince Arthur of Connaught) between 1921 and 1924.2 He was Imperial Secretary to the High Commissioner between 1924 and 1931.2 He was Secretary to the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of the Union of South Africa between 1924 and 1931.2 He was Representative to the Union of South Africa of the UK Government between 1927 and 1931.2 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1931.2 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahamas between 1931 and 1937.2 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Mauritius between 1937 and 1942.2 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Trinidad and Tobago between 1942 and 1946.2 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.).3 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1945.2 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.).3 He was invested as a Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.).2 He lived at Queen Anne Farm, Jacob's Well, Guildford, Surrey, England.1

Sir Bede Edmund Hugh Clifford and Alice Devin Gundry.1 She married, firstly, Timothy Angus Jones, son of Sir Roderick Jones and Enid Bagnold, on 23 January 1948.1 She and Timothy Angus Jones were divorced in 1960.2 She married, secondly, Hon. Michael Langhorne Astor, son of Waldorf Astor, 2nd Viscount Astor and Nancy Witcher Langhorne, on 12 July 1961.1 She and Hon. Michael Langhorne Astor were divorced in 1968.1 She died in 1988.1
      Patricia David Pandora Clifford usually went by her middle name of Pandora.1 Her married name became Jones. Her married name became Astor.

     He lived at 40 Albert Street, London, England.3
