     Admiral Sir William Fanshawe Martin, 4th Bt. was born on 5 December 1801.2 He was the son of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas Byam Martin and Catherine Fanshawe.2 He married, secondly, Sophia Elizabeth Hurt, daughter of Robert Hurt.2 He married, firstly, Hon. Ann Best, daughter of William Draper Best, 1st Baron Wynford and Mary Anne Knapp, in 1826.1 He died on 24 March 1895 at age 93.2
     He was Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He lived Lockynge.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Station between 1860 and 1862.1 He gained the rank of Admiral on 14 November 1863.2 He gained the title of 4th Baronet Martin on 4 December 1863.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Plymouth Station between 1866 and 1869.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) on 24 May 1873.2
