Walter John Best was born on 30 September 1917.1 He is the son of Humphrey Willie Best and Helen Grace Meakin.2 He married Jessie Mackintosh Simpson, daughter of Kenneth Mackintosh Simpson, on 15 April 1941.1
He was educated at H.M.S. Worcester, EnglandG.1 He was Marine Pilot for Trinidad and Tobago.1 He fought in the Second World War, in the Far East, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He gained the rank of officer in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service.1 He lived in 2003 at 10 Cronk Drean, 2nd Avenue, Douglas, Isle of Man.1
