     Captain Hon. John Charles Best was born on 13 May 1842.¹ He was the son of Hon. Reverend Samuel Best and Emma Duke.² He married Mary Wagstaff, daughter of William Wagstaff, on 2 April 1873.¹ He died on 25 May 1907 at age 65.¹

     Mary Wagstaff was the daughter of William Wagstaff.² She married Captain Hon. John Charles Best, son of Hon. Reverend Samuel Best and Emma Duke, on 2 April 1873.¹ She died on 28 January 1927.¹
     From 2 April 1873, her married name became Best.
