     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Yorkshire Hussars Yeomanry Cavalry.1 He graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Imperial Yeomanry.1 He fought in the Boer War.1
