Colonel Sir James Nockells Horlick, 4th Bt. was born on 22 March 1886.1 He was the son of Sir James Horlick, 1st Bt. and Margaret Adelaide Burford.1,2 He married, firstly, Flora Macdonald Martin, daughter of Colonel Cunliffe Martin, on 22 March 1911.1 He married, secondly, Joan Isabel MacGill, daughter of James Barrie MacGill, on 19 January 1956.1 He died on 1 January 1973 at age 86.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1908 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He fought in the First World War, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1917 in the service of the Coldstream Guards.1 He was decorated with the award of the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1917.1 He was decorated with the award of the Chevalier, Legion of Honour.1 He was decorated with the award of the Military Cross (M.C.)
