     Major Charles John Venables was born on 21 January 1865 at New Providence Island, West Indies.1,2 He was the son of Rt. Rev. Addington Robert Peel Venables and Elizabeth Anne King.1 He married Helen Margaret Terry, daughter of Robert Terry, on 21 March 1896.2 He died on 8 August 1915 at age 50 at Gallipoli, Turkey, killed in action.3
     He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.2 He fought in the Boer War.3 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.3 He fought in the First World War.4 He gained the rank of Major in the 7th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.3
