     Sir Robert Joseph Phillimore, 1st Bt. was born on 5 November 1810.1 He was the son of Dr. Joseph Phillimore and Elizabeth Bagot.2 He married Charlotte Denison, daughter of John Denison, on 19 December 1844.1 He died on 4 February 1885 at age 74.1
     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)1 He was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1841 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 They also had several daughters who died unmarried.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tavistock between 1853 and 1857.1 He was a practising Chancellor of the Dioceses of Oxford, Salisbury and Chichester.1 He was a practising Judge of the Cinque Ports in 1855.1 He held the office of Admiralty Advocate.1 He held the office of Queen's Advocate.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1862.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1867.1 He held the office of Judge High Court of Admirallty and Arches Court in 1875.1 He was created 1st Baronet Phillimore, of Shiplake, co. Oxford [U.K.] on 28 December 1881.1 He lived at The Coppice, Shiplake, Oxfordshire, England.1
