Archibald Cockburn of Langton, younger was born circa 1660.2 He was the son of Sir Archibald Cockburn of Langton, 4th Bt. and Marion Sinclair.1,2 He married Elizabeth Mackenzie, daughter of Sir George Mackenzie of Rosehaugh.1 He died on 22 August 1702.2 He was buried on 26 August 1702 at Langton, Berwickshire, Scotland.2

He was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, Bachelor of Law (LL.B.).3 He was invested as a Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1841.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Southampton between 1847 and 1856.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General between August 1850 and March 1851.1 He was invested as a Knight Bachelor on 14 August 1850.3 He held the office of Attorney -General between March 1851 and February 1852.1 He held the office of Attorney -General between December 1852 and November 1856.1 He held the office of Recorder of Bristol between 1854 and 1856.1 He held the office of Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas between November 1856 and June 1859.1 He succeeded to the title of 12th Baronet Cockburn, of Langton, co.
