Edward Mackenzie Murray-Buchanan of Leny was born on 3 June 1874.1 He was the son of Mackenzie Murray and Eliza Margaret Jackson.2 He married Jean Isabella Shaw Carmichael, daughter of James Carmichael of Arthurstone, on 9 October 1913.1 He died on 22 December 1956 at age 82.1
He was given the name of Edward Mackenzie Murray at birth.1 He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.1 He was educated at Oriel College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 In 1919 his name was legally changed to Edward Mackenzie Murray-Buchanan on inheriting the Leny estate from his cousin John Hamilton-Buchanan.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1
