     He was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 5th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1936.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Gloucestershire.1

     Major William John Paley Marling was born on 23 October 1865.1 He was the son of Sir William Henry Marling, 2nd Bt. and Mary Emily Abraham.2 He married Mary Helen Marling, daughter of Colonel Walter Bentley Marling and Mary Isabella Cunynghame Baker, on 22 October 1913.1 He died on 9 April 1939 at age 73, without issue.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He gained the rank of Major in the 3rd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Gloucestershire.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1932.1
