     Christian Douglas was the daughter of Sir William Douglas and Margaret Gordon.1 She married Robert Dalzell, 1st Earl of Carnwath, son of Robert Dalzell, 1st Lord Dalzell and Margaret Crichton, with a tochter of 20,000 marks.1,2

     Gavin Dalzell, 2nd Earl of Carnwath was the son of Robert Dalzell, 1st Earl of Carnwath and Christian Douglas.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Carnegie, daughter of David Carnegie, Lord Carnegie and Lady Margaret Hamilton, circa 21 July 1637, with a tocher of £2,000 Scots.1,2 He married, secondly, Mary Erskine, daughter of Alexander Erskine, Viscount Fentoun and Lady Anne Seton, before 14 December 1663.1 He died in June 1674.1 His will was probated on 13 May 1675.1
     Gavin Dalzell, 2nd Earl of Carnwath was styled as Earl of Carnwath between 25 February 1645 and 1654.1 He fought in the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651, on the King's side, and was taken prisoner, being held for many years.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Carnwath [S., 1639] circa June 1654.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Dalzell [S., 1628] circa June 1654.1
