     Gillichrist Edward Melville Macnaghten was born on 25 November 1894.1 He was the son of Sir Melville Leslie MacNaghten and Dora Emily Sanderson.2 He married Eleanor McCarthy, daughter of John William McCarthy, in 1918.1 He died on 10 July 1939 at age 44.1
     He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 21st Battalion, London Regiment.1

     From 3 October 1903, her married name became Donner.
