     Major Robert Valentine Gervase Elwes was born on 14 August 1922. He was the son of Francis Guy Robert Elwes and Barbara Dorothy Wythes. He married Sonia Audrey Sebag-Montefiore, daughter of Lt.-Col. Eric Cecil Sebag-Montefiore and Audrey Mabel Rose Haldin, on 8 October 1946.1 He died on 10 January 1959 at age 36.1
     Major Robert Valentine Gervase Elwes gained the rank of Major in the service of the King's Royal Rifle Corps.1
